Not f-f-f-fade away

Call it morbid interest, but the writer could not resist staying up until 2 in the morning to catch The Who in the Spanish rerun of Thursday's benefit concert for the victims of Hurricane Sandy. Disappointed, to say the least, that Daltry and Townsend did not perform My Generation*. Then again, seeing that the capacity Madison Square Garden audience was composed of the same ultra-conservative and financially solvent (redundancy watch) age group that populates your standard Spanish trade union demonstration - it's no real surprise.

Here's the lyrics:
People try to put us d-down (Talkin' 'bout my generation)
Just because we get around (Talkin' 'bout my generation)
Things they do look awful c-c-cold (Talkin' 'bout my generation)
I hope I die before I get old (Talkin' 'bout my generation)

This is my generation
This is my generation, baby

Why don't you all f-fade away (Talkin' 'bout my generation)
And don't try to dig what we all s-s-say (Talkin' 'bout my generation)
I'm not trying to cause a big s-s-sensation (Talkin' 'bout my generation)
I'm just talkin' 'bout my g-g-g-generation (Talkin' 'bout my generation)

This is my generation
This is my generation, baby

Why don't you all f-fade away (Talkin' 'bout my generation)
And don't try to d-dig what we all s-s-say (Talkin' 'bout my generation)
I'm not trying to cause a b-big s-s-sensation (Talkin' 'bout my generation)
I'm just talkin' 'bout my g-g-generation (Talkin' 'bout my generation)

This is my generation
This is my generation, baby

People try to put us d-down (Talkin' 'bout my generation)
Just because we g-g-get around (Talkin' 'bout my generation)
Things they do look awful c-c-cold (Talkin' 'bout my generation)
Yeah, I hope I die before I get old (Talkin' 'bout my generation)

This is my generation
This is my generation, baby

And here's a 1966 live performance.

Some other observations:

The writer bought his first Rolling Stones album just shy of 49 years ago. And Mick Jagger (age 68) is still performing the same schtick? After this comes paradise.

Eric Clapton (age 67) appeared to get a tad lost in one of the choruses of Crossroads.

Thankfully, Bruce Springsteen (age 62) did not show up with his UNESCO-approved Woody Guthrie meets Riverdance spectacle.

Roger Waters (age 69)... long live Syd Barrett.

Paul McCartney (age 70). Why don't you all f-f-fade away. (We didn't make it that far, btw).

*Of course, the Stones didn't perform Not Fade Away either. Here's a 1964 live version.

I doubt anyone under the age of 40 could care less about these geriatrics nor can they afford tickets if they do.

Just like the trade unions.

Have you not listened to Young Man Blues? It's been the same story since always!
